How Can I Get a Still Picture from a Video? Sometimes this question may arise in our head.

It often happens that we may find our most cutest expression in a video. Then we think if we can get it as a still picture! Right…? or from some movies you may need to take an incredible click. There are so many natural or unnatural/ supernatural shots in a movie. One might need those still pictures to post or share in social media or use anywhere else. For different purposes we may require still images from motion pictures.

In this write up, I am going to tell you 5 simple ways to get a still picture from a video. Take a look:

1. VLC Media Player

The simplest and most convenient way to take a still picture from a video is through VLC media player. If you have not this media player in your computer/laptop then you have to download it first. After downloading VLC media player Launch it and open your video file through this media player. Click on Media at the top and then Open File. Now find out the exact frame you want to take a still picture. When you find then stop the video at the frame you want to export. Click Video at the top and then Take Snapshot. At the top of playback window, there will appear the target location where the picture will be saved. Pretty simple! isn’t it…?

2. GoPro Studio

Let’s read the second way. You can also export still image using GoPro Studio. If you use this software as your video editing tool then it is very easy to get the desired picture. At first, Click on the video clip in the timeline (under the playback window) and find the exact position of your still image. You can just playback your video and stop at the frame you want to export.

If you need more precise adjustment, you can use arrows. These arrows will move the playback one frame back or one frame forward. Find precise location – one frame back or forward. Once you are at the desired frame go to the menu and click File – Export – Still Image. Export still image GoPro Studio asks what size of the picture you want? I suggest to take default actual size. Then you can change the folder where you want to save it. You can also rename the file.

3. Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro is more sophisticated video editing software which I prefer to use. It is even easier to extract your favorite image using this program. Click on a video file in the bottom left quadrant. You have to be in Media Browser tab to see the files. Click on the video file in Media Browser. The video will appear in the top left quadrant and you can start playback. Similarly to previous way, you need to stop the video at the desired frame. You can also use arrows for more precise locating. Then press Ctrl + Shift + E to get your desired photo. You can change file name and target folder where it will be saved.

4. Windows Media Player

You can also get still pictures using the newer version of windows media player. Start the movie in Windows Media Player and when at the point where you want to capture a screenshot, press the Print Screen key on your keyboard. You can use Print Screen in window mode or in fullscreen mode, although fullscreen mode may not have the best resolution.

5. Any Other Video Player

If you are not still convinced or you are not satisfied with the image quality using above mentioned method then you can play your video in any other media player. Click/ Tap pause button where you want to take still picture. If you are using Windows 8 or 10/ 10 pro then open snipping tool App. In search button type snipping tool then click new. Then drag with your cursor. How much long you want to take the picture, you may drag the cursor according to it.

Above mentioned all methods are applicable for laptop or desktop. If you are using mobile and want to take a still picture from a video content or movie then take a screenshot using default application & then in a photo editor tool you may crop/ resize your still picture.
